The Coachella festival rocked, dusty and recession free

The Coachella Valley was abuzz with stomping feet, rising dust, and sweltering weather, where music's biggies conglomerated to entertain hundreds of fans, who turned up despite rocket high temperature

The sweltering heat and recession hit economy didn't put a damper on spirits at the 10th Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The first big music festival of the year held in the scorching but majestically beautiful desert east of Los Angeles.

Held at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, California, the three day extravaganza saw hundreds and hundreds of sweat drenched fans beat a stuccato rhythm into the dusty grounds of the L.A. deserts. And there were many milestones this hot summer weekend.

Paul McCartney delivered an epic set of Beatles classics, M.I.A. ended her maternity leave and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs played Sunday alongside a giant inflated eyeball. My Bloody Valentine punctuated the air with a ten minute plus distorted guitar riff that was louder than anything heard that weekend.

M.I.A.'s sang her hit “Paper Planes”. The performance was the first one the Sri Lankan-British rapper was giving since the birth of her baby, two months ago, and the festival grounds lighted up all around with hand-held fluorescence, mirroring M.I.A.’s own glow-in-the-dark outfit.

Public Enemy and The Cure were headlined the third and final night of the Coachella Valley festival.

Single day tickets went for $120 at the gate, which people had saved up for and bought, for despite the markets grey pallour. Lupe Fiasco and others tried to beat the soaring heat by tossing bottles of water into audience. The heat didn't stop Fiasco from duing step aerobics on the speakers, while the Yeah Yeah's tossed giant eye ball balloons out into the audience.

Many a celebrity also made an appearance in the dessert. Resse Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhall dined together in the artist compound, Drew Barrymore and Justin were spotted canoodling by the side of the stage during M.I.A.'s performance. Other performers included Zac Efron, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Kirsten Dunst, Paris Hilton, Chloe Sevigny and Kate Bosworth.
