T-Series sues add agency for Pappu Can't Vote

Considering remixes, remakes and rip offs are so much the staple diet of Indian music, is does come as something of a surprise that there are people complaining about rip offs. But when the government of India decides to try their hand at remixing, and to top it all for a good cause one wouldn't expect the song writers to create such a ruckus.

"Pappu Can't Dance" was appropriated for the Delhi election campaign recently, in a new avatar of "Pappu Can't Vote", in the hopes that a familiar tune would jolt the young vote-banks out of apathy. For the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the E.C. is using Dance Pe Vote Mar Le. 

Yet, T-Series managed to create a stir over the song, despite it being common knowledge that many political parties use Bollywood tunes for their party jingle. With T-Series filling a notice against Span Communications, a Delhi based advertisting company, the record label has created a first of sorts.

Claiming the name of the track from the film Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na, might have been changed, the actual tune and rhythm of the song remained the same. But when Bollywood gossip site Bollywood Hungama contacted Span Communication, they denied any such allegation. The Chief Financial Head, K. K. Gupta, even went on to say, "We have not received any such legal notice from T-Series. As per our project, we have been granted approval from the Chief Election Commission directly to go ahead and use this track. Besides since all our other projects as well are government oriented, we get direct approval from the system itself."

While, we would expect the Chief Election office to come under fire for this since they are the ones who commissioned the job, we can only just wait and see what goes down with this latest copywright hullaboo.
