Imitation is the best form of flattery. Music stars inspire other music stars

As Rihanna stepped out in a Michael Jackson inspired jacket, Blender dug up other music stars who looked towards music for imitation... er, we meant inspiration

Music always needs a muse. And so does the fashion music stars step out in and get shot in. So when Rihanna recently stepped out in a Michael Jackson inspired military style jacket, we saw, we appreciated, and we decided to dig up some more iconic styles off the top of our heads.

When Rihanna herself, stepping out from out of the shadow of her very public break up with Chris Brown, made her appearance in that spiffy jacket, she caught the attention of many a fashion critic. Yet the Umbrella star wasn't the first to make take off from Wacko Jacko's very peculiar style. Kanye West, Jay Z and even the comic Robin Williams have at different times made Jackson's style a part of their wardrobe.

The Beatles have been a big inspiration for many. From their iconic Abbey Road cover being recreated over and over again, to their costumes, and songs influencing many a stage appearances. Most recently Coldplay stepped out in Sgt. Pepper costumes for the Grammy's to walked away with best rock album. After applogising to Sir Paul McCartney who was in the crowd for copying their look so blatantly, Chris Martin, added, "Thank you so much. We have never had so many Grammy's in our life. I feel so grateful to be here, I'm going to tear up. Thank you so much."

But before their appearance, Oasis have not just been compared to the iconic band, but have made so many tributes to them, it's hard to count on one hand. The list of songs include, "I am the Walrus", "Help!", "You’ve Got to Hid Your Love Away", "Strawberry Fields Forever", "With in Without you"," Tomorrow Never Knows", and "I am Only Sleeping".

And then last year Oasis' Liam Gallagher sported a pudding bowl haircut, reminiscent of Ringo Starr's in the 1960s, while shopping in Londis. And there have been early photos of Oasis sitting on the Imagine symbol in Central Park, while a recent video for Falling Down, Oasis were dressed up in Beatle like suits to meet the Queen.

Another phenomenal influence has been Marilyn Monroe. In her "Material Girl" video, the pop star dressed up in a pink dress reminiscent of Monroe's 1952 movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes during her performance of "Diamonds Are A Girls's Best Friend".

Even Lindsay Lohan very recently shed her inhibitions, and clothes to pose as a nude Madonna in a photo shoot for New York Magazine. The rebirth of Lilo as Monroe, sees her posing for photographer Bert Stern as Monroe did in 1962 for a sessions that became known as "The Last Sitting." Beautiful and historic, taken during several boozy sessions at the Hotel Bel-Air, the photographs are arguably the most famous images ever captured of America’s most famous actress: Monroe, sleepy-eyed and naked, sips from a Champagne glass, enacts a fan dance of sorts with various diaphanous scarves, romps with erotic playfulness on a bed of white linens. Six weeks after she had posed, Monroe was found dead of an apparent barbiturate overdose.
