The Delhi duo of Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj has reached levels, which most folks normally are only able to aspire for. Two albums and a Bollywood soundtrack old the canvas of work they have created for themselves in the span since they have been working together is phenomenal.

Hello Hello, their latest album is a coming together of all that you would have heard as part of different genres and subgenres of Electronica, Pop, Bollywood, Folk, Classical – all of them stitched together seamlessly and presented as a pastiche of varying hues. Opening with the deep seated flow of the bansuri, “Electric Universe” seeks to search for enlightenment as a strumming string sample gives way to full blown beats, “Hello Hello” immediately catches your attention. Local influences are present in abundance throughout the album.

While it’s the dhol on “Tonic” and “Atomizer” or bansuri on “Electric Universe”, and a multitude of others thrown in bits and pieces throughout the album, we also have hardcore folk vocals on “Tonic” and “Naina Laagey” (the latter sung by East India Company’s Papon). But the truest beauty is revealed in the form of the language of Urdu, as the impeccable poetry of Ghalib is woven against the backdrop of a distinct Carnatic percussive beat on “Har Ek Baat”.
