Raavan, a take off from epic 'Ramayana' mesemerises its viewers more with its visual opulence than its story. Epics seem to be the flavour of the month as the successful Prakash Jha's flick Raajneeti managed to woo its viewers with a backdrop on 'Mahabharata'. In Raavan, south Indian superstar, Vikram who plays cop in this film has only one mission in his life & that is to capture Beera (Abhishek Bachchan), a prominent law breaker but a 'messiah' for the tribals around. Story hits a high point when Beera kidnaps cop's beautiful wife Ragini( Aishwarya) who eventually falls in love with Beera & gets into a dilemma about where her loyalties lie...
One thing that will capture your breath more than Aishwarya's beauty & Abhisek's acting is the cinematographic genius of Santosh Sivan & Manikandan. From the opening sequences where Beera(Abhishek) smashes his boat into wide eyed Aishwarya's canoe to the fleeing,flinging,fulminating visage of Aishwarya, captured against wild waterfalls, turbulent tidal rivers, crumbling trees & silken drizzle, the film is a string of breath taking images. The second half of the film does not get semblance of story, with adequate twists & turns which reflects the Surpankha legend(revised),the Hanuman-Sita encounter,the Agni-Pariksha demand and the film moves from sheer visual to visceral too. Everyone in the film including veteran like Govinda & 'Bhojpuri' superstar Ravi Kissan have managed to fit into their roles which makes this movie a must watch.

Apart from its Picturesque beauty Rahman & Gulzar are contuinuing with their Golden run as they have given soul to movie by composing awesome numbers & eternal songs which are already topping the charts  like "Beera Beera" & "Ranjha Ranjha" which will be remembered by you for a long time.
